International Travel Insurance Coverage

The State of Arizona and the University of Arizona provide a range of insurance and assistance services for eligible faculty, staff, students and authorized volunteers traveling abroad on official university business

Benefits include 

  • Liability coverage abroad, including for vehicle use (subject to approval) 

  • Emergency medical care due to accident or sudden illness 

  • Worker’s compensation benefits for employees injured on the job while abroad 

  • Emergency assistance services, such as medical evacuation and repatriation 

     

Benefits Do Not Include

  • Routine or ongoing medical care, including treatment for pre-existing conditions 

  • Family members or non-university affiliated companions 

  • Personal vacation or extended travel not directly related to official university business 

Travelers are strongly encouraged to review their personal health insurance for international coverage and to consider supplemental insurance if needed. 

Zurich Travel Assist

The university’s international travel assistance provider is Zurich Travel Assist. All eligible university travelers have access to Zurich’s 24/7 support and emergency services.

Travelers are encouraged to print or save the Zurich Travel Assistance Card and carry it throughout their trip.

Reporting International Injuries

Employees injured while traveling abroad on university business should: 

  1. Seek medical treatment as needed. 

  1. Contact Zurich Travel Assist to open a claim. 

  1. Notify your home department.

Vehicle Use In Mexico

  • University-owned vehicles: Traveler must obtain a Mexican insurance packet from the University Motor Pool. 

  • Personal vehicles: Not covered for Mexico travel. 

  • Rental vehicles: Allowed with pre-approved Mexican Auto Liability coverage, arranged at the time of reservation.
