Mexican law only recognizes insurance coverage issued by Mexican companies. When driving a University vehicle into Mexico, you must obtain a "Mexican Insurance Packet" from Risk Management & Safety before the trip. To comply with Mexican requirements each packet is vehicle specific with the authorizations required. The Mexican Insurance complies with Mexican law and with University vehicle coverage provides comprehensive coverage while in Mexico.
Call Risk Management & Safety at 621-1790 to request a Mexican Insurance Packet. Please allow time to prepare the packet and arrange for pick-up between 8 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday.
In case of an incident, follow the detailed instructions in the packet. You must report incidents both to the Mexican insurance carrier and to University Risk Management & Safety.
The University does not provide Mexican insurance coverage for private vehicles. Most commercial rental vehicle contracts prohibit travel into Mexico. Call the Steve Holland at 621-1556 to discuss specific situations and the limitations on coverage.
