Construction and renovation in UA facilities is managed by one of three units: Facilities Design & Construction, Facilities Management, or Real Estate Administration. Individual departments may not arrange for or perform construction and renovation activities without prior coordination with one of the above listed units.
Code compliance and permits for construction and renovation of university owned buildings is under the jurisdiction of the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Risk Management & Safety (RM&S) is designated as the university's liaison to the State Fire Marshal, and coordinates the process for review of plans and specifications to obtain state approval and permits prior to starting construction.
A detailed written procedure (PDF format) was adopted in May 2002 by the UA Construction Procurement Coordinating Council. Units participating in the development and adoption of the Procedure included the Associate Vice President for Business Affairs, University Attorneys Office, Risk Management & Safety, Facilities Management, Facilities Design and Construction, Real Estate Administration, and Procurement & Contracting Services.
